Calling a SSI CGI from PHP?

I am still rather new to PHP and I was wondering if it was possible to call a server-side include cgi script, such as the entropybanner that comes with standard accounts, from within a PHP document?

Maybe I just want my cake and eat it too, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it.
