Hey people,

Just giving a shout about this as it can serious mess up your PCs if not careful.

w32.blaster.worm, etc (check vil.mcafee.com) affects one of those holes in the microsoft systems.

Just a quick warning as it starts either tonight or tomorrow i think (if what i hear is right)

yeah. lol - I never really noticed how bad downloading off the internet is till I was repairing my friend's PC. he had 57 different viruses after the 2 months his antivirus subscription expired.

........even had msblast which kept causing the PC to shut down every 60 seconds.

Quick note about this virus. If you are infected (and if you did not apply patch early you are infected) Note that removing this virus has a very specific order of execution.

You must apply patch PRIOR to doing anything. Removal of the actual msblast.exe file is LAST. Failure to do this in the correct order will really create problems for you. (reboot loop)

Make sure you read up on this procedure

Really pretty easy to remove, I have done 46 systems in the last 3 days. The only problem child was one a customer did him self. LOL

Just turn an old PC into a linux box. Let it do your web-browsing and email. Use the windows box for whatever apps you absolutely need it for, but dont put it online. After you learn how to use linux apps instead of windows apps, you can totally abandon windows.

Then when the media reports the latest virus ruining computers, you can just smile and not experience a second of downtime.

why dont webservers crash from the ms viri? b/c they run linux. they run 24/7. they can run for over a year without being rebooted.

I turned to linux to find a file sharing app that wouldnt crash my system (I used a gnutella app). It was cool. File sharing will run for weeks (probably years, but I had to unplug my laptop and move it around, so weeks was as long as I ever had it in one place)

The transition is bold, but the quicker you lose that weak link, the better. The more dependent you come on windows the harder it will be to quit.
