Hi folks,
I am looking for an easy and cheap way of talking with some of my friends at the same time over the net.
Can someone recommend something?

I know you can do video over yahoo messenger. Perhaps you can check voice.
on the mac, ichat allows you to do voice chatting. but not so many people have macs.

I haven't noticed much spam on mine. Just popups and stuff, like a popup at startup and one at exit.

By the way, you've always got MSN messenger's webcam and voice feature.

Yup, but it seems to only support two persons with audio/video (?). Do they still use Netmeeting?

In MSN6 the webcam shows in a box in the chat window. They might use bit from netmeeting or the may have created a new control to use.
But yep, still only two.

I have one, have you tried Roger Wilco, it's generally used for gaming but can be used independently. Allows you to talk to as many people as you can handle at one time. I can't remember the web site, try a search.

Hm, this one looks even more useful and there's no advertising junk! :)
100megs people, is it possible to make a channel here for such a thing, at one's own account?

No,
Applets or programs can't be run on the server. If you looking to do that sort of thing you might want to check 100megsdedicated.com for a dedicated server.

I just signed up for Vonage this month and it is pretty cool. The sound quality is similar to a digital cell phone rather than the standard analog phone. Of course there is a monthly bill to pay, but they give you a black box that turns high speed internet into a local phone line.
Do a google search for Vonage discount or Vonage special. If you click on a current resellers webpage to be referred to Vonage.com, you can get your second month free, which covers the setup and shipping cost of black box.
I set my router to give the blackbox a DMZ (demilitarized zone) so that those evil corporate guys cannot browse my LAN. Who knows what else the black box can do, but there is nothing gained from having you computer and the black box able to communicate, only added risk.

I opened up another chat server we are trying out, (we have a gaming group)
TeamSpeak is another voice program. It however uses TCP/IP instead of UDP. I would like it if you try this also and give some feedback.
Download the client software HERE (http://www.teamspeak.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index)
Use IP 69.56.146.155 once again as the server address. (xoblab.com will work as well for either)

Hi Randyo,
Great, I will try both of them! This week has been very heavy at work so I haven't got a chance yet to try Roger Wilco.
But I would love to take a look at them, I haven't found something else really useful yet.

We have used RW for almost 6 years, and it has always been a good performer.
Low overhead and more than acceptable sound quality.
Really lacks user configuration but other than creating channels and passwords, really not much more you would need other than being able to ban or disable users without having to do it at the serverl level.
I updated the above links, You can set either chat program to the domain XOBLAB.COM and they will resolve to the correct port settings for which ever you run.
