Hi all,
It would be much easier to be a carpenter or something :) but for a small reseller-starter, could someone advise me of "good-to-have-tools"?
For instance, when an account is sold, there seems to be systems that setup accounts in real time (as here at 100megs?). Also having a small database of the customers and a simple helpdesk are such things I am thinking of.
Any traps to avoid? :-)

Good luck, as far as automation goes you are on pretty tough grounds for a couple reasons.
1)Root Access, I have not seen a single setup that will work with a reseller account
2)Fraud is a constant threat, you really are best to review every new account, HOWEVER it would be really nice to be able to click a single button to create the account after the user has already input all the data. This so far just is not available. You are stuck entering each account manually
RESELLER Toys:
PerlDesk, I ran ver 1.5.5 for some time with no trouble, it was free and no longer offered by Perldesk but you may find a copy floating around,
The $49 Version works great and is what I updated to. http://1gighost.com/hdesk/pdesk.cgi for a look
Customer database:
I ended up using my own with MS Access. There are also a number of free ones offered at http://hotscripts.com
All are pretty much the same but my coding skills limit my ability to modify, so I used html and MS.
USER TOOLS:
I recommend a few for the users that are pretty decent, and free
WINSCP http://winscp.sourceforge.net/eng/
Putty http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/
NetTerm http://securenetterm.com/

Hi,
Actually the account on 100megs aren't set up automatically. We set them up by hand (we're just really quick at it :))
As for the helpdesk, deskpro.com is pretty good.

won't really work for a reseller since the install document says you need root access at a few points during the installation.
